Let's Keep Moving Forward

It's time to take things to the next level.

The NHFA is a community-driven organization run entirely by a volunteer working board.  There are no paid staff.  Your donations and sponsorships directly support the resources, education, and events that NHFA is able to offer its members. Without your generosity, we cannot keep doing this work.

Why Do We Hold a Fundraiser Every Year?
The home funeral community has always been about people who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. We are people who are used to doing things ourselves, taking control of our destiny, and relying on a community of like-minded souls to fill in the gaps of our knowledge. We also rely on each other to keep the lights on, and keep the community moving forward toward bigger and better things. That's where you come in. Without donations and participation from our members and friends, we can't continue to integrate the home funeral back into the American culture.
What Does My Donation Do?
Our fall fundraiser has always been about one thing - keeping this organization up and running.  Our fundraiser goals have always been set at just above our minimum operation cost - around $8,000 - giving us just enough money to provide our educational resources for one more year. 2018 is a little different. We're have a goal of $12,000. There's a good reason for that. We believe that 2018 is the year we take things to the next level. There are so many things we want to bring to the community that we can't afford to develop if we don't push for more a ambitious donation goal. Here are just a few of the initiatives we are launching, this year:

Expanded Conference
More expert speakers, more hands-on training, better accommodations, and more session flexibility.
NHFA Podcast
A  regular podcast that will bring the stories and experiences of our community directly to you each week.
Member Community Portal
Find local members more easily, connect with local experts, and help build up regional chapters of the NHFA, all on our website.
New Publications
In today's world, laws and politics change fast. We need to be ready to bring the latest information and education to our members.

Watch Our 2018 Expert Panel Discussions

Terry Skovronek, home funeral practitioner and teacher, examines concerns about money, making a business, and the law of caring for dead loved ones and community members. What should one charge for such services? Is it wise to want to become part of the death-trade?
Educating interested folks about home funerals is what we do, but have we included "uninterested folks" like the Coroner/Medical Examiner, EMT's, sheriff/police deputies, Country Registrar of Deeds? Lucy Basler, of Sacred Ceremonies, passes on the lessons she learned when her friend's husband died unexpectedly, and reality didn't meet expectations.
Death is rarely beautiful, but the art that comes out of grief and mourning can be. Writer and artist, Tim Howell, leads an open forum conversation around some of the artwork, music, fiction, and poetry that explores death, grief, and mortality. Be ready to share the pieces that stand out to you, and participate throughout the conversation.
Lauren Carroll and Dani LaVoire walk us through the practical elements of home funeral body care with a video demonstration, followed by an open Q&A session. Get real-world advice on body care, and hear the personal stories and experiences of two women that bring true wisdom with them.
